✨ What to Expect

If you missed last month’s session, you can catch up in the
March 2026 Meetup Recap →

April’s meetup is all about hands‑on learning and emerging capabilities in our regional mesh ecosystem.

We’ll begin with a Mesh Open House — a guided, collaborative session where new and returning participants can get help flashing devices, configuring radios, joining MeshCore rooms and Meshtastic channels, and understanding how mesh messaging fits into the broader Capital Region Mesh architecture.

After the open house, we’ll shift into a forward‑looking technical presentation on LoRa 2.4 GHz digital voice over Meshtastic — a fast‑moving area of experimentation that could reshape how low‑power mesh networks support real‑time communication.

Agenda

  • 7:00–7:15 — Arrivals & Introductions
  • 7:15–8:00Mesh Open House — Flashing, configuration, onboarding, and Q&A
  • 8:00–8:10 — Break / Open Conversation
  • 8:10–8:40Experiments with LoRa Voice — Presentation & Discussion
  • 8:40–9:00 — Working Session: Next steps, testing opportunities, and volunteer roles

💡 Presentation Highlights

🛠️ Mesh Open House: Flash, Configure, Connect

Whether you’re brand‑new or looking to refine your setup, this session is designed to get everyone confidently running on the mesh. We’ll cover:

  • Flashing device firmware
  • Configuring devices for your use case
  • Understanding Meshtastic channels
  • Joining and navigating MeshCore rooms
  • Understanding roles, routing, and message flow
  • Hands‑on troubleshooting with experienced volunteers

Bring a device if you have one — or just bring curiosity. We will havea variety of devices on-hand for sale so you can leave with a fully-configured node!

🎙️ Experiments with LoRa Voice

Our second presentation dives into the emerging world of digital voice over LoRa 2.4 GHz, a capability that has recently gained momentum within the Meshtastic community. We’ll explore:

  • How 2.4 GHz LoRa differs from sub‑GHz LoRa for voice applications
  • Current experimental voice modes and codec approaches
  • Latency, bandwidth, and reliability considerations
  • Hardware platforms best suited for voice experimentation
  • Early demos, prototypes, and community research
  • How voice could integrate with CRM’s multi‑layer architecture

This session is ideal for anyone interested in the future of off‑grid, low‑power voice communication.

🧩 Collaborative Working Session

To close the evening, we’ll gather input and identify opportunities for hands‑on experimentation:

  • What onboarding resources should we build next
  • Which 2.4 GHz voice features we want to test as a group
  • Volunteer roles for documentation, field testing, and hardware trials
  • Planning for late‑spring deployment and training sessions
  • Updates from the LoRa Working Group

Your experience level doesn’t matter — your perspective does.
